Leads going off from Luck of the Draw ===================================== This document lists all the leads from Luck of the Draw that I know about. Leads are labelled: *** good lead; ** possible lead; * bit crap really. If you're not a member of OUCC, we would appreciate it if you contacted us before looking at any lead. In any case, if you look at any lead, please let me know what happens. Gavin Lowe (gavin.lowe@mcs.le.ac.uk) Western side (right) -------------------- Passage off from unsurveyed section. Pushed by Tim, Pauline, Jonathan 7/12/96. Connects with Dogleg Complex. * The Glitz goes off from near station L.1. Goes for about 60m to disappointing rift; possibly diggable. * Passage just before station L.2. No go. * Passage just after station L.4. 4m x 1.5m. Pushed by JC on 21-12-96. Note left at start. Goes ~20m to dig; passage fairly open ahead (GL). However, it's surrounded on all sides. ** The Gobbler, where main passage turns left, near station L.5, near formations (The Pineapple Patch). Pushed by Tim, Pauline, Jonathan 7/12/96. Open lead heading northwest. (Lead reserved by Tim etc.) Survey Q. It's now almost surrounded by Dogleg Series, but it's possible that there might be a lead to the south. * Passage between stations L.9 and L.10 (station L.9 is where the original route went up a slope of boulders and through a mini choke; the current taped route goes under to the right). Oxbow, connecting further back. * Three passages by station L.18, just after two right-hand bends then left hand bend. Narrow rifts, all choke. * Passage at station L.26, on left hand bend. 4m to small filled tubes (CPB). ** Passage at station L.29. Pushed by CPB 4/1/97. Non draughting awkward dig left. *** Passage at station L.32, in small chamber with several routes off. Pushed by Dave Barratt 4/1/97 for 25m. Ongoing, but needs drag tray. Another dig to the left pushed by GL and CPB 7/4/97; ongoing, fairly long term, probably needs drag tray. *** Passage at station L.34, just after start of formations. Awkward 15m to squeeze into larger passage. 15m ahead, passage chokes. To the left, passage runs for 15m to long term dig. Ahead and up is climb into rift which closes down. To right at floor level is draughting sand dig, currently being dug by GL and CPB (7/4/97). ** Passage at station L.40. Pushed by Chris and Dave, 7/12/96. Goes NW for ~30m. Ends in diggable bedding 20cm high, slight draft. Second part of survey P. ? Passage at station L.46. ? Passage straight ahead at station L.53, most of the way through the crawl, where the way on turns left. Possible diggable way on in floor. ? Passage at station N.13, where passage turns left. Small rift to right. ? Passage at station N.22, where passage turns left, shortly after series of wiggles. ? Passage at N.73, where passage turns left, just before chamber with faults. I think I checkd this 15/12/96. Eastern side (left) ------------------- ? Small passage at top of climb into LotD. Somebody seems to have checked it. ** Large passage going straight on at top of climb into LotD. Pushed by CPB and Malcolm Reid late Dec. Interconnecting crawls and rift passage, ending in dig. Total length of this and the one below approx 200 m. * Passage near station K3. Not on current route. Pushed by CPB et al 4/1/97. Interconnecting crawls, also linking back to the above. * Two small passages after station L.1. Very close to passage from next lead. Oxbow. * Passage between stations L.2 and L.3. Pushed by Chris and Dave, 7/12/96. Goes north for ~40m. Ends in diggable rift, but not in very good position. Survey O. ? Passage between L.4 and L.5. Mud and boulders. Dug by CPB 11/1/97. What happens??? * Passage at station L.6. 5m to choke. Drafts, but nothing to go at (GL). * 10 after previous, climb down through unstable boulders. CARE! (GL) ** Passage at L9 above run in from left. Pushed by CPB et al 4/1/97. Goes back (North) for 5m as crawl. Sand tray dig. Not promising. ** Two passages at station L.12. Dig, maybe worth checking. ? Passage going straight on at station L.14, where passage turns right. 2m wide. ** Three rifts at station L.22. Left hand one is oxbox, rejoining near L.25. I can't remember if there were any side passages (GL). Other rifts choke (CPB). * Passage going straight on at station L.25, where passage turns right. Closes down. * Passage near L.30. Pushed by CPB et al 4/1/97. Rift goes off, becomes too tight after 3m. Not promising. ** Passage at station L.32 in chamber, with another passage going off right. 6m to near total fill. Diggable? ** Passage just after L.34. Pushed by Chris and Dave, 7/12/96. Heads SE for ~100m. Ends in diggable bedding, slight draft. First part of survey P. Dug by Pauline and Tim B; now no airspace, but still diggable mud in bedding. * Passage at station L.42, Lightbulb Chamber. Pushed by Chris and Dave, 7/12/96 (third part of survey P). Extended by Jonathan, Nobby, Will, Alison, 12/12/96 (survey R). Runs SE for ~180m. Sandy dig ahead. Crawl on left to tight double squeeze, with view of cross rift beyond. See DTT 6.26. Revisited by GL and CJD on 11/1/97: not promising. ? Passage at station L.44. 5 m climb to too tight passage. ? Passage at L.45. 2" air space. No draught. ? Passage between L.45 and L.46. 8m to mud-floored dig (no airspace). * Tubes around L.50 (where passage turns right, and gets low) : 3 leads pushed, but all end in dismay! Few metres gained, but no obvious way on. Some draught felt, but this could be circulation due to the passage shape. ** Passage at station L.51, part way into crawl. Passage runs for ~30m, past miny choke. Seems to close down. Ends at 6" diameter hole, no draught. ** Passage at station N.65, behind large block. Seems to run roughly NE. Pushed by Nobby and Gavin, 7/12/96 for 30m; extended by Charles and Ali, 15/12/96 for another 20m. Extended by I&T W-J, 4/1/97, for 20m to tight rift. Surveyed, but data not yet added.
